Terms of Use

The short version. lokt helps you keep the focus time you plan, but it is a tool, not a guarantee. Subscriptions are billed and refunded by Apple. Do not rely on lokt in an emergency. Our liability is limited to what you paid us.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Aidan Stone, who operates lokt ("lokt", "we", "us"). By downloading or using the lokt app or uselokt.com, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use lokt.

Your license to the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"). These Terms add to the Apple EULA. If they conflict, these Terms control, except where the Apple EULA or the App Store terms require otherwise.

2. Who can use lokt

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you. lokt is a self-control tool for your own iPhone. It is not a parental-control product and is not designed to control another person's device.

3. How lokt works, and its limits

lokt locks apps you choose during calendar events you choose, using Apple's Screen Time features. Locks depend on iOS, your calendar data and your device settings, which we do not control.
Locks may start or end late, or not at all, for example if iOS delays background work, your calendar has not synced, your device is off or out of battery, or you change the time zone.
You can always end lokt's control by turning off its Screen Time access in iOS Settings or by deleting the app. Strict mode removes lokt's in-app unlock, but it does not and cannot remove these iOS options.
Suggestions from on-device AI about which events are focus time may be wrong. Check which events lock before relying on them.

Emergencies. Do not use lokt to block anything you might need in an emergency, for work you are required to answer, or for health or safety. Emergency calls and Emergency SOS always work on iPhone, but lokt can block messaging and any other app you choose. You are responsible for choosing what to lock and when.

lokt is a productivity tool. It is not medical, psychological or addiction treatment.

4. Subscriptions, trials and refunds

Free and Pro. lokt has a free version with limits and a paid Pro subscription. Current features and prices are shown in the app before you buy.
Billing. Pro is sold through Apple's App Store and charged to your Apple ID. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown when you subscribed, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Free trial. If a plan includes a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
Cancel. Open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then lokt. Canceling stops future renewals. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
Refunds. Apple handles all App Store payments and refunds, and we cannot issue them ourselves. To request one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are at Apple's discretion under its policies.
Price changes. If we change a subscription price, Apple will notify you in advance and, where the law or Apple requires, ask for your consent.

5. Acceptable use

Do not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute lokt, use it to break any law, or try to interfere with its operation or other people's use of it.

6. Ownership

lokt, its name, logo, design and code belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the Apple EULA. Your calendar data and other content remain yours.

7. Feedback

If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

LOKT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT LOKT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT LOCKS WILL ALWAYS START OR END ON TIME.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OPPORTUNITIES OR MISSED COMMUNICATIONS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE LOKT, INCLUDING ANY APP BEING LOCKED OR NOT LOCKED. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR LOKT IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR US$50. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

10. Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from claims caused by your misuse of lokt or your breach of these Terms.

11. Ending use

You can stop using lokt at any time by deleting it and canceling any subscription. We may stop offering lokt or any feature, or end your access if you break these Terms. Sections 6 through 13 survive.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please email us so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute will be decided in the state or federal courts located in St. Louis County, Missouri, except that either of us may bring an eligible claim in small-claims court. If you are a consumer in a country whose laws give you the right to sue locally, nothing here takes that right away.

13. Apple

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for lokt or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any product, legal or intellectual-property claims about lokt. If lokt fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation. You confirm you are not in a country under a US government embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

14. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. We will change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use lokt after a change means you accept it. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Contact us at support@uselokt.com.
